Wastewater Energy Transfer (WET) refers to the capture and use of heat found within sewer systems. In 2021, the City of Ottawa undertook a study to explore the potential for WET systems in Ottawa as a low carbon heating source. The interactive map shows the sewer lines in the City of Ottawa with sufficient flow rates to potentially support commercial scale wastewater energy transfer systems.

Ottawa’s new Green Building Certifications Report shows strong progress across the city’s-built environment. Ottawa now has over 65 million square feet of certified office, retail, and industrial space, along with more than 10,000 certified residential units, reflecting growing momentum in sustainable design and energy efficiency.
